LinkedIn Trust Score in 2026: what it is, how it's computed, and how to raise it

Most LinkedIn power-users haven't heard of the Trust Score. LinkedIn doesn't show it, doesn't publish the formula, and doesn't even officially confirm the name. But everyone who runs sustained outbound on the platform has felt it: two recruiters at the same company, with the same activity volume, get wildly different daily caps. One can send 100 connection requests a week without a hiccup; the other gets a "you're approaching the limit" warning at 30. The difference is the Trust Score.

Here's what we know about it from third-party analysis, what it appears to weight, and the engagement habits that move it up.

What it is

Trust Score is LinkedIn's internal reputation signal for an account. It's not a single number you can see; it's a continuous variable the platform computes from your activity patterns and uses as input to almost every cap and gate in the system: weekly connection-request capacity, daily InMail allowance, sensitivity to "this looks like automation" classifiers, search-result eligibility, feed reach on your own posts, and what the platform calls "trust-based actions" like accepting your invites in bulk for high-trust senders (linkboost.co's 2026 LinkedIn safety guide).

The score was rebuilt sometime in 2024 to be heavily engagement-weighted. Pre-2024, raw account age and connection count dominated. Post-2024, recent engagement signal (last 30-60 days) does most of the work. That's why long-established recruiter accounts are seeing their caps tighten this year — the model now cares more about what they're doing this month than how long they've been on the platform.

What it appears to weight

LinkedIn doesn't publish, but the consistent observations across Dux-Soup's 2026 analysis, linkboost.co's data, and our own WarmList beta cohort point to roughly these weights:

Public engagement on others' content (heaviest positive weight). Comments and reactions on posts from your network — especially substantive comments (30+ words) on posts from accounts you're not yet connected to. This is the strongest single positive signal.

Posting cadence (medium positive weight). Posts you author, especially text posts that get replies, shares, and reactions. Even short text posts count; a once-a-week posting habit moves the needle.

Profile completeness and freshness (small positive weight). Headline, About section, current role, education filled in. Updates to the profile in the last 12 months. This is mostly a one-time gain — keep it filled, but don't expect compounding effects.

Outbound accept rate (mixed weight, fast-moving). If your invites get accepted at 50%+, it's positive. If they fall under 30%, it's a sharp negative signal that compounds quickly. The model treats low accept rate as evidence of spam-like behavior.

Outbound burst patterns (sharp negative). 50 actions in 10 minutes followed by silence is a classic automation fingerprint. Spreading the same volume over 4 hours is benign.

Click and dwell timing (medium negative if abnormal). Sub-200ms between page-load and click reads as automation. Real humans take 1-2 seconds to read and decide. This is where browser-based tools that throttle action speed pass the test that cloud automation fails.

Cloud-IP fingerprint (sharp negative). Logging in from a server IP shared with other automation users — even briefly, even once — triggers the automation classifier. The 31% restriction rate cloud-tool users see in 2026 is largely this signal at work.

How to raise it (the boring answer that works)

The actions that raise Trust Score are unglamorous and consistent across all the analysis:

Comment substantively, daily. 5-10 thoughtful comments per day on posts in your feed. Each comment needs to be 30-100 words, on-topic, and not a copy-paste template. If your comment could plausibly be left by a thoughtful peer, it counts. If it reads like a recruiter trying to manufacture engagement, it doesn't (the model has seen every variation of "great post! 👏").

React with comments, not just likes. Likes have almost no weight in 2026. Comments and the newer reactions (insightful, support, celebrate, love, funny) all count more, but the comment is doing 80% of the work.

Post weekly, even short text posts. Once or twice a week. Doesn't have to be polished. The signal is "this account creates content," not "this account creates great content."

Spread outbound across hours. 5 connection requests at 9 AM, 5 at 1 PM, 5 at 3 PM — instead of 15 at 9:01 AM. The volume is the same; the pattern is what trips the classifier.

Actually read profiles before sending. Spending 10-30 seconds on a profile before sending a connection request is the dwell-time signal. Sending invites in 2 seconds per profile is automation-shaped.

Personalise invite notes. A unique 1-2 sentence note on each invite raises accept rate, which is itself a positive Trust Score signal.

Avoid cloud automation. This is the architectural choice. A recruiter at the top of the score can send 200+ requests a week; one at the bottom is throttled to 20-30. That's a 7-10× difference in raw outbound capacity from the same calendar week of work.

The kicker: the actions that raise Trust Score (commenting on others' posts) are also the actions that raise reply rate when you do eventually DM. The recruiter who comments on 50 posts a week is the same recruiter who, when she finally DMs a candidate she's commented on three times, gets a 40-45% reply rate instead of 5%. The flywheel compounds.
